SUMITON, AL — Bevill State Community College Division of Workforce Solutions, Alabama Community College System (ACCS), Alabama Department of Labor, and Jasper Career Center are working together to host a job fair on June 21, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Bevill State’s Sumiton Campus. The event is free to both employers and job-seekers. Employers from all industry clusters are welcome, with open registration ongoing until June 16 or until all spaces are filled.
“Bevill State is excited to partner with the Alabama Department of Labor, ACCS, and the Jasper Career Center to provide this opportunity for job-seekers and employers in our region to connect. Events like this are so vital in our current workforce climate. Alabama Secretary of Labor Fitzgerald Washington will be in attendance on June 21. This underscores the need for job fairs like this in our state, especially with an upcoming event the size of the World Games,” said Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College.
The Alabama Community College System and Alabama Department of Labor are currently encouraging system partners around the state to host job fairs prior to the launch of The World Games on July 7, 2022. Employers throughout Alabama continue to express a need to fill thousands of open positions. From July 7 to July 17, the World Games in Birmingham are expected to draw approximately 500,000 visitors in addition to 3,600 athletes from more than 100 countries, a ten-day event that will compound labor market needs in the state. Businesses most likely to be impacted at this time include restaurants, bars, hotels, gas stations, transportation services, and recreation venues in the greater Birmingham area. Bevill State is located in Walker County, which is situated ideally on I-22, a brief 30-minute drive to the I-65 & I-20/I-59 exchange in Birmingham.
