Jasper takes to the road tonight, traveling to Cullman for a rivalry game.
The Vikings opened the season with a loss to Midfield, while Cullman won a last-second thriller at Mars Hill.
“Both teams want this win,” Jasper Coach Philip Bailey said. “This is Cullman. That’s all you have to say.”
The Vikings are coming off a 55-27 loss at home against Class 6A Center Point after trailing by just 10 points at halftime. Cullman, meanwhile, knocked off Mars Hill 13-10 in dramatic fashion.
After leading 10-0 going into the fourth quarter, Mars Hill gave up a Cullman touchdown. Trying to run out the clock, punter fumbled the ball in the end zone. The Bearcats fell on it for the win as time expired.
Bailey said the Bearcats haven’t changed their philosophy, being a heavily run-oriented team.
“They are going to run the football,” Bailey said. “It’s going to be a test to our defense.”
A comeback win last season gave Jasper the 36-35-2 edge all-time in the series.
“I’ve coached in four Cullman games now,” Bailey said. “We are 2-2. They’ve all been close. I don’t expect any different for this one.”
