Christmas Wishes

The Santa Life

One of the best things about being Santa Claus is listening to Christmas Wishes. In my time as the big man in red, I have heard some fantastic wishes, some heart wrenching wishes and some absolutely funny wishes.

The thing about the Christmas Wish is always hope. That’s what it means – it is a hope that this will happen. So, here are some of the wonderful wishes I have heard over the years.

I had a family come for Santa Moments pictures with my wonderful photographer Jason Reed. The children were a six-year-old little girl and a ten-year-old little boy.

The little girl wished for things like Barbies, a new bike, and Shopkins. When I asked the little boy, he took a deep breath and said “Santa, I need a new 12-gauge shotgun.”

I was intrigued at this wish so I asked him why did he need such a big gun. Here is where I almost fell off my chair.

“My old 20-gauge shotgun is just not doing the job,” he said. “I have shot at three deer this season and missed. I need a bigger gun so I have a better chance of getting a bigger deer than my dad.”

Of course, his dad is right there and started laughing and told him it is NOT the gun. He told his son that he just needed more practice. The boy looked at his father and said, “No, I can hit all the targets in the backyard no problem. I just need a bigger gun so I can get that deer next time.”

I did have to explain to the boy that I was a toy maker and I do not deal in guns. However, now that his parents knew what he wanted maybe they can swing something. He said “Ok” and then went into a normal Christmas wish list.

Back a few years ago, I had another family of five children come in for Santa Moments pictures. Now, most of these were pre-teens and teenagers. There was only two at the right age to still believe in the magic of Santa.

We all sat together, got the pictures and I started asking each what they wanted for Christmas. The pre-teens of course were embarrassed that I would ask them. The teenagers were being very good sports about the whole thing. The teenage boy stated he wanted new video game for his Xbox One. He said he didn’t care which one, just as long as it was exciting. The six-year-old little girl immediately said, “Barbie and her Sisters Puppy Rescue for Xbox. We can get that one since you don’t care.”

I let out a huge laugh because she was looking at her brother like, “yes, I said it!” We all started laughing. I explained to the little girl that would be her wish, not her brother’s. She said, “Well, what if he wishes for her to have it, would that take her wish or his wish.” I told her parents she will make a great lawyer one day.

Christmas wishes are just one of the many things I absolutely love about being Santa. I look forward to hearing all the new Christmas wishes this season.
