New beginnings

I have a potential job opportunity in front of me that could change the trajectory of my life going forward. Don’t worry, the plans for The Community Journal shouldn’t be affected.

For the past several weeks, James has been carrying the full weight of the Journal as I’ve hit the proverbial wall. The last column I wrote was when I attempted to correct what I consider to be the worst story I’ve ever written.

Since then, I’ve gotten and (mostly) recovered from COVID, my oldest daughter and my wife both celebrated birthdays, the weather has turned much cooler and now I’m facing a potential career change.

It’s a lot.

While I’m not going to go into specifics yet, if this new job pans out it will force some changes as I refocus my efforts to grow personally and professionally as well as grow The Community Journal. But make no mistake, as long as I’m able, I am committed to growing this into what I know it can be.

Now, with all of that said, I’m not pleased with where we are. Our coverage is not as broad as any of us would like. I take more of the blame for that than anyone. However, there are some things and ideas being tossed around that should help with that in the future. Additionally, we are still looking for some more contributors to help cover things around the county. I’m hopeful to make an announcement regarding students and aspiring writers in the very near future.

As far as my immediate future, that is still to be determined. However, I can not express enough how committed the entire team here is to providing Walker County with the absolute best and most innovative community news coverage in the state of Alabama.

As James and I have both done repeatedly, I want to thank every single one of you that have followed us from the beginning and continue to do so. I can not wait to see what the future has in store.
