We are excited to announce that Walker County Center of Technology’s Rising Star for the month of August is Ian McKenzie, a seniorĀ from Curry High School currently in the Automotive program taught by Michael Craig. He is the son of Debbie Hamilton. Ian has received all 10 ASE’s and certifications in the following: Valvoline, Snap-on, and Automotive Lift Safety. Ian plans to attend the General Motors ASEP Program at Lawson State Community College after graduation. His goal is to one day open his own auto shop.Ā
From Ian: “WCCT could be a missed opportunity becauseĀ sometimes people don’t see blue-collar trades as a route to make good money. I have taken advantage of opportunities to learn skills, get certifications in my trade, and get connected to industry after graduationĀ There’s nothing like fixing a car, testing it out, and seeing it work as it is intended to work.Ā At the end of the day, making money doing something I truly enjoy is like not working aĀ day in my life.”
The WCCT Rising Star of the Month is a partnership between the Walker County Center of Technology and The Community Journal.
