Rep. Woods completes new member orientation

Rep. Matt Woods (R-Jasper) attended New Member Orientation at the Alabama Legislature this week where he participated in informationalmeetings on a variety of topics including the budget process and the logistical processes of filing and advancing legislation.

“The orientation sessions were very productiveand provided us with the technical knowledge to hit the ground running when we return to Montgomery for our first legislative session,” Woods said.

In addition to the information he learned during official meetings, Woods was also able to get to know many of his newly elected colleagues.

“I am one of 26 newly elected Republican legislators in the Alabama House of Representatives,” Woods explained. “I was glad to see so many of my Republican colleagues talking about moving their districts forward in conservative ways. I feel like we will be working well together as a team when session begins.”

Woods says that the economy was a frequent talking point among the new members and that everyone is concerned about the impact rising prices are having on working families.

“The policies that are enacted in Washington are having an impact on people in Walker County and across the state,” Woods said. “When prices on basic goods are rising as quickly as we have seen them rise, it creates a tremendous hardship. We must focus on relieving some of that pressure for the hardworking men and women of this state.”

Woods was elected to the Alabama Legislature in November and will serve in the first regularly scheduled legislative session of the quadrennium beginning March 7, 2023.
