The following is an original poem written by Walker County resident Tommy Black.
It’s the day before Christmas
and Walker County is about.
Buying last minute gifts
for the ones they left out.
It was a war at Walmart,
and with the Mall so filled,
finding presents at Love’s
leave our shoppers so thrilled.
Thrift stores included,
we cannot forget
the times have been hard
and everyone’s in debt.
Though money is tight,
they still find a way.
Searching through toys
just before Christmas day.
The children are anxious,
tracking Santa online.
Making sure that their presents
will arrive on time.
With the traffic so packed,
and the grocers selling out,
Last minute changes
to the feast they planned out.
Due to the hustle,
There’s things left forgot.
Thanks to Dollar General,
no more Walmart parking lot.
As the Eve winds down,
and the cooking begins.
I’m thankful for family
and all of my friends.
I leave a reminder
kids listen to me,
you must go to bed early,
and leave cookies by the tree.
Santa will come,
as long as you’re good.
A Merry Christmas to all,
From Carbon Hill to Yerkwood.
