Carbon Hill boys win county championship

CARBON HILL — The boys varsity final of the Walker County Tournament on Saturday night turned into a double overtime thriller with Carbon Hill holding off Cordova 58-55 to win the championship.

The win marked 11 in a row for the Bulldogs.

Carbon Hill took the lead 56-55 with 53 seconds left in the second overtime when Devon Daniel connected on two free throws.

The game was abnormally long for a high school game thanks to the two overtime sessions and more than 60 fouls and nearly 70 free throw attempts.

Brandon Keeton scored 19 points for the Bulldogs and was named as the tournament’s most valuable player. Jase Prince added 10 points. Kaden McCown was the only double-digit scorer for Cordova.

Carbon Hill led 14-9 after the first quarter with the Blue Devils coming back to take a 22-21 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs led 38-34 after three quarters. The game was tied at 47 at the end of regulation. The teams only scored three points each in the first overtime to see the game tied at 50.
