Schools in the Walker County, Sumiton Christian and Jasper City systems observed Groundhog Job Shadow Day for all 11th grade students. These students had the opportunity to explore the “world of work” through a job shadow experience with local businesses.
All students also came together at the Jasper Civic Center for a musical performance by Mark Palmer and Tommy Crowder and heard from a few speakers, including local realtor Jacob Sanders, who is the chairman of the 2023 board of directors for the Chamber of Commerce of Walker County.
Groundhog Job Shadow Day demonstrates the connection between academics and careers, exciting students to learn by making their class work more relevant, builds community partnerships between schools and businesses that enhance the educational experience of all students, and introduces students to the requirements of professions and industries to help them prepare to join the workforce.
