Rotary Club of Jasper to celebrate 100 years

The Rotary Club of Jasper will celebrate 100 years of service to the community on March 9.

Three members of the club’s leadership board addressed members at Tuesday’s weekly meeting at Bevill State Community College. They said the Rotary Club of Jasper will be only the 7th club in Alabama to celebrate 100 years.

Anthony Christian said the event, which is for club members, will take place at 5 Loaves Bakery on March night, starting with a cocktail hour at 5:30 and a dinner at 6:30. Following the dinner, five different members will speak on two decades of the club each.

“When you start looking back, there is some great history of our club, and it’s kind of funny to look back at how they handled things back then and how strict they were on rules and regulations,” Christian said.

Eric Nail addressed the food for the event, saying club members would receive an invitation soon with choices for their dinner for the night.

“It’s going to be delicious. It’s going to be at 5 Loaves. It’s going to be great,” Nail said.

Sharon Hogg said organizers are expecting around 100 people, including some district club officials.

“This is going to be a big event for us,” she said.

The group also said they are collecting memorabilia related to the club if any community members have any items.

“We will have articles about the club, and trophies that have been won over the years. The decorations will be all about our club,” said Linda Burns, current club president.
