Jon Bryant Beaty, a senior basketball player at Jasper High School, has been named The Community Journal’s Student Athlete of the Week.
Beaty is averaging 15 points per game for the Vikings, who are now 24-8 on the season. Beaty has connected on 120 of 250 3-point attempts, which is 48 percent (both school records) on the year. He is currently 22nd all time in 3-pointers made in a season and 7th in season 3-point percentage in Alabama High School Athletic Association history.
Beaty would love to continue playing basketball at the next level and pursue a degree in business. He will also graduate JHS with a welding certificate.
“There’s two things I can say about JB Beaty always. The kid is fearless and he gives max effort every time he touches the floor,” Jasper basketball coach Heath Burns “He’s shot the basketball as good as any kid I’ve coached in my 16 years of coaching high school basketball. I’m most proud of the selfless example JB has become for our young kids in our program.
“As his leadership roles increased so did his character, faith, mental toughness and his attention to detail of making the classroom a higher priority in his life,” Burns added. I’m truly ecstatic to see JB getting the recognition he’s receiving because the young man is very deserving.”
