Art in the Park, the annual event hosted by the Walker County Arts Alliance, is scheduled for Saturday, May 13 at Gamble Park in Jasper, but the deadline for artists to enter is just days away.
The deadline for artist entries is Saturday, April 1. The application is on the WCAA website at https://www.wcart.org/art-in-the-park.
Kate Gurganus, WCAA executive director, said the event is on par to have around the same number of artists as the 2022 version.
“We currently have 52 applications and there is usually a flurry of applications right before the deadline,” she said. “There are many returning Walker County artists and also many new faces from around the state.”
Art in the Park will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 13 at Gamble Park. In the event of rain, it will be moved indoors to the Jasper Mall.
“Art in the Park was a great success last year and we expect to have another fantastic event,” Gurganus said.
There will be dance performances by Athletic Arts and Marilyn Sanders as well as children’s crafts and face painting. WJLX 101.5 FM will be broadcasting live from the park. The park also has a brand new playground to keep children occupied.
“We want to thank our many sponsors, our outstanding volunteers, board members and the Walker Area Community Foundation,” Gurganus added.
According to Gurganus, Rep. Matt Woods (R-Jasper) is working with the Alabama Department of Tourism to help promote the event.
“We appreciate the commitment it takes from the entire community to make Art in Park such a successful and popular event,” she said.
