With heavy rains and high winds bringing down trees and power lines across Walker County last weekend, members of the Walker County Commission on Monday praised the teamwork it took to clear up the issues caused by the severe weather.
“There was a lot of activity over the weekend,” District 1 Commissioner Keith Davis said, noting some residents remained without power Monday morning. “In my district, we had around 25 trees down, most wrapped in (power) lines.
Davis said Alabama Power workers did a “fantastic” job, which allowed district workers, volunteer firefighters, area citizens and even a local business or two to clear roadways.
“It came through quick, and you’ve got to scramble,” David said, also thanking Walker County E-9-1-1 for its work. “It was a very smooth operation. It took a little longer because there were so many trees wrapped in lines. It was a fantastic job of teamwork by our entire community over the weekend.”
District 2 Commissioner Jeff Burrough also thanked E-9-1-1 director Tim Thomas for his communication after the storms.
“Tim and I talked two or three times, and he gave me a rundown of all the pages,” Burrough said. “We had close to 30 trees on the ground in District 2. We received lots of help from the fire departments. It’s a lot of work that people don’t see. These Alabama Power men scramble around and have lots of places to go and do a great job.”
District 3 Commissioner Jim Borden said his area didn’t have as many issues as Districts 1 and 2, but he did say, “citizens and first responders did a great job coming out during the storms.”
District 4 Commissioner Steven Aderholt said there were no reports of issues in his area.
“Thankfully and incredibly, I didn’t have any storm damage in District 4,” he said. “The winds were incredibly strong but for no damage, I am thankful to say the least.”
