Sumiton council votes to change meeting dates

The Sumiton City Council voted last week to move its future meetings to Mondays. 

The city has met on Tuesdays for years, but due to a scheduling conflict with one of its council members, meetings will now be held on the first and third Mondays of each month at 9 a.m.

In other action, the Sumiton council: 

• Approved sending a police officer, Taylor Goodwin, to a fatal fire investigations class at Jacksonville State University for on March 27-28. 

• Agreed to designate April as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month.
