FBC of Carbon Hill opens new ministry building

By James Phillips, The Community Journal

First Baptist Church of Carbon Hill recently celebrated the opening of a new ministry building.

Pastor Scott McCullar said the facility took many years of planning and prayer to complete the facility.

The facility is named after long-time member Albert J. Lofton, who 91 years-old and now lives in New Mexico.

“This building is made for ministry, and Albert Lofton has always been about ministry,” McCullar said. “Even in his 80s, he was the type of person who if you asked to do something in ministry, he was going to do it.”

McCullar said the church needed more space. The ministry building has a basketball court, classrooms, a safe room and a kitchen.

“This will open up so many more ways for us to minister to the community,” McCullar said. “Now we have plenty of space for fellowship, That’s something we never could have done before. There is also an opportunity for sports leagues and emergency issues if there is a tornado.”
