“Nursing is a field in which if an individual can dream it, they can do it. There are just so many roles for nurses to practice as evidenced by my many roles and practice sites. There are just too many to name,” stated Dr. Kathleen Williams.
This year’s recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award on the Bevill State Community College Sumiton Campus, Dr. Kathleen Williams is an alumnus of Walker College and Birmingham Southern College where she received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Mathematics. She then returned to school to complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Kathleen practiced many roles in nursing including administration and in cardiac and trauma critical care. Ten years later, she completed her Master of Science in Advanced Practice Nursing in Family Practice at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Kathleen practiced in rural Walker County and the surrounding counties of northwest Alabama for over 20 years. During this time, she worked to develop what are now Capstone Health Centers. While with Capstone, Kathleen was a primary health care provider and Assistant Professor at Capstone College of Nursing. Kathleen completed a post-master’s degree in advanced nursing Practice Rural Case Management at the University of Alabama.
In 2013, Kathleen left her full-time role in advanced nursing practice to join the nursing faculty on the Sumiton Campus of Bevill State. Kathleen earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Advanced Nursing Practice with a Concentration on Academic Nurse Education from Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing at Samford University in 2017. To date, Kathleen happily serves as faculty with a history of coordinating a number of nursing courses. She has worked in the development of the transitional course for those individuals with a history of military service as a medic and several service-learning projects involving community activities and programs.
