Capstone unveils new branding, breaks ground on new Nauvoo facility

Capstone Rural Health Center held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new facility coming to Nauvoo on Monday, May 15, while also unveiling new branding with a name change to Capstone Health.

Capstone Rural Health Center opened in June 2001 as a nurse-managed center and operated as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a goal to deliver family centered, quality primary health care to rural areas.

The creation was made possible by the University of Alabama, Capstone College of Nursing and Professor Dr. Jeri Dunkin. Throughout the years, as Capstone received prestigious accolades and awards, they opened additional locations and expanded services.

Dr. F.David Jones, executive director, explained the new branding as a way to accurately reflect the evolution of the organization and its facilities.

“We feel like our new brand and name accurately reflects the health system that we’ve evolved into in order to meet the needs of our growing community,” Jones said. “We aren’t just a clinic anymore. We are here to serve all of our communities for all of their health needs. As our new tagline states, ‘your health is our mission.’”

The new facility in Nauvoo will be located at 532 Fourth Street. It will serve as a space for in-person general and mental health care, alongside a pharmacy and telehealth services. Capstone officials said it is expected to open in early 2024.

Congress appropriated $725,000 in Community Project Funding for this critical facility upgrade at the request of U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville), who attended the groundbreaking Monday, along with several other elected officials, community members and representatives from Capstone.

“The one thing I’m trying to do in Washington is to make sure that all of the cities are looked at, including rural areas,” Aderholt said.
