Narcan distribution events taking place throughout Walker County

In recognition of National Fentanyl Awareness Day on Tuesday May 9, 2023, R.O.S.S. presented a Narcan Distribution Pop-Up event outside of the Jasper Civic Center. 

R.O.S.S. and Project Freedom distributed free naloxone (narcan), free fentanyl test strips and resource information. 

The groups gave out 106 doses of Narcan. The groups thanked the Alabama Department of Mental Health for allowing Project FREEDOM to distribute the Narcan and Dustin Beaty with Hospital Discount Pharmacy in Walker County for helping with the event.

Other groups who participated in the event included She Recovers, Recovery Resource Center, New Vision Detox, Walker County Recovery Community, Self Recovery, Pregnancy Test and Resource Center, Walker County Sheriff’s Office and Hope for Women. 

The next Narcan event, hosted by Recovery Resource Center, is on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at noon at the Jasper Housing Authority. There is also a Narcan event that same day from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Dora Civic Center. 

Other upcoming  pop-up Narcan events scheduled for Wednesday, May 24, from 10 a.m. to noon at TJ’s Convenience Store in Sumiton and from 1 to 3 p.m. at Capstone Clinic in Nauvoo. There will also be events on Friday, May 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Texaco in Carbon Hill and from 1 to 3 p.m. at Cordova City Hall.
