Bevill State to relaunch real estate program on Fayette campus

Bevill State Community College Division of Workforce Solutions is proud to announce the return of the College’s Real Estate program. The first classes will be held on the Fayette Campus beginning July 31, 2023.

“Careers in real estate are projected to grow over the next decade. Alabama has a vibrant housing market and a lot of construction underway. Our state continues to attract people from around the United States. We have beautiful beaches, rivers, and mountains; an affordable cost of living; and careers available in a variety of industries, such as healthcare, technology, and manufacturing. That makes Alabama an attractive destination,” says Dean of Workforce Solutions and Economic Development, Al Moore.

“Bevill State is committed to increasing opportunities for rapid workforce training. We currently offer many workforce, short-term, and long-term certification training programs. The College wants to assist individuals in earning industry-recognized credentials that improve their potential to obtain living-wage jobs. The world of real estate can offer incredible financial opportunities to someone with an entrepreneurial spirit. I am excited about the relaunch of Bevill State’s Real Estate program,” said Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College.

Bevill State has partnered with real estate veteran Marilyn Dumpson. She is an agent, broker, and educator who has been teaching classes in the Birmingham area. Dumpson reached out to Bevill State with a vision to bring real estate education to a larger segment of the region. “I graduated from Bevill State Community College and am excited by the opportunity to work with them and share the expertise I have gained over the years. Real Estate was a second career for me and it turned out to be the opportunity of a lifetime,” states Marilyn Dumpson.

Dumpson explains that her motivation stems from her own experience, “I actually failed the real estate exam six times! But, I never let that stop me. I passed on the seventh attempt, earned $70,000 in six months, and was named Rookie of the Year. I want to teach others to learn from my mistakes and build the career they always dreamed of having.”

Class offerings will be hosted on multiple campuses and vary based on demand. In addition to preparing students for licensing exams with the Alabama Real Estate Commission, Dumpson is available for professional development hosted at any Bevill State location or on-site with a company. Among the planned classes are 60-Hour Salesperson Prelicense, Negotiation Skills, Communication Strategies, Administrative Office Procedures, Human Resource Management, Leadership Development for Women, Employee Recruitment, and many more.

Registration is now open for the first classes. Interested participants may choose a day or evening option, attending Monday and Tuesday from July 31st to October 17th, 2023. All books and materials are included, and every graduate receives three months of personal mentoring to assist in launching their new career. To register contact Wendy Jenkins at [email protected].
