The East Walker Kiwanis Club unveiled on Monday its first if 16 Little Free Libraries to be placed in communities around east Walker County.
The first box was at the headquarters of the Yerkwood Community Improvement Association, in partnership with the group.
The Literacy Council of Walker County stocked the box and will rotate the inventory. The YCIA will use the books to begin a summer reading program for the kids who come there.
The boxes are two levels by design and will have books on one level and food items on the second.
The East Walker Kiwanis Club was chartered in 2022, and the Little Free Libraries is its first service project. The project is funded by a Cawaco R&D grant.
