Scholarship pageant seeking entrants

By Anne Louise Phillips, Intern, The Community Journal

Registration is now open for the annual Miss All Awareness Scholarship Pageant, which will take place on Saturday, June 24.

The Miss All Awareness Scholarship Pageant is an event put on by Alabama Diamonds and Pearls, Inc., a non-profit organization that gives back to the community.

“This is the scholarship pageant’s third year,” said Heather Hood, President of Alabama Diamonds and Pearls, Inc.

Hood encourages students to register and participate. “There is no residency restriction on this,” she said. “Students from other areas are welcome.”

The Miss All Awareness Scholarship Pageant will have two divisions–a Junior Miss division, age 7-12, and an older division, beginning at age 13. All participants will raise money by gathering People’s Votes, worth $1 each. This money will go to benefit Walker County Hands of Hope.

Contestants will be eligible for scholarships if they are dual-enrolled, in college, going to college, or going to a finishing trade school.

“Students have a year to claim their scholarship,” Hood said. “If a senior in high school receives a scholarship, she can redeem it the next year when she makes a college decision, for example.”

Registration for the pageant ends June 10th, and all fees must be paid by June 20th. Those interested in participating can register at the Alabama Diamonds and Pearls website, alabamadiamondsandpearls.com.
