McConaughey film wraps Walker County scenes

A major motion picture starring Matthew McConaughey filmed in Walker County for 16 hours Friday evening into Saturday morning.

“The Rivals of Amziah King” is a crime thriller set in Oklahoma. The film’s makers used The Frosty Mug in the Lynn Park community as a set, transforming the iconic Walker County restaurant into “Ulysses’ Steak Sandwiches.”

The movie began filming last month in Birmingham and will continue in the area for a few more weeks, but filming in Walker County is complete as of Saturday morning.

The film’s base camp in Walker County was set up at Jeans on the River with actors and crew members shuffling back and forth from there to The Frosty.

Sipsey Road (from the Frosty to Old Pineywoods Road) was closed throughout Friday night and early Saturday morning. Members of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office worked traffic control and set security for the film.
