Online job ads up 11.1% in May from last year

MONTGOMERY – Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in May 2023, there were 126,346 job ads posted in Alabama.

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Sales Reps, Wholesale & Manufacturing, Ex. Technical & Scientific Products, and Fast Food and Counter Workers, with 19,830 ads placed for those occupations in May.

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

In May 2023, there were 54,695 total job ads with salaries, including 15,739 jobs ads with salaries of $70,000 and above; 9,230 jobs ads with salaries in the $50-69,000 range; 13,440 jobs ads with salaries in the $35-50,000 range, and 16,286 jobs ads with salaries less than $35,000.

The top two employers posting the most online ads in May were Huntsville Hospital with 1,176 and Walmart with 1,154. The rest of the top 10 were: UAB Medicine (1,136), Auburn University (819), Regions (662), Lowe’s (572), Baptist Health (583), The University of Alabama (567), Walgreens (535), and Encompass Health (534).

Typically, most of these occupations require a four-year bachelor’s degree, but some do not. The advertised median salary for Software Developers in Alabama is $102,800. This occupation has 1,710 Annual Total Openings in Alabama.
