The Community Journal is excited to announce a fundraiser it is organizing to benefit the Walker County Humane Society as a part of its #communityfirst initiative.
The fundraiser, being done in collaboration with GoTees Screen Printing in Jasper, will feature a T-shirt with the phrase “I Love Walker County Critters” on the front with #communityfirst, along with logos for TCJ and the humane society on the back. The shirt design was created by Jasper High School 11th grade student Daisy Phillips.
Shirts may be purchased at www.shopgotees.com/thecommunityjournal. All proceeds from the shirt sales go to the Walker County Humane Society. Four different color (baby blue, mint, pink and silver) shirts are available in sizes S to 4XL. Shirts are $23 with $10 from each shirt sold going to the Walker County Humane Society.
“As a part of our vision when starting The Community Journal almost one year ago, we wanted to be a media outlet that serves our community,” said James Phillips, co-founder and publisher of TCJ. “Service sometimes means giving, so this is one way we have chosen to give. The humane society helps so many families and their pets each year in Walker County, and we felt like it’s a great nonprofit for us to benefit.”
The Walker County Humane Society is a 501c3 nonprofit formed in 1979. It offers low and no cost spaying and neutering services to the cats and dogs of Walker County residents, a food bank for pets in need and assistance to law enforcement with cruelty, abuse and neglect cases. On average, the group assists 800 families annually with spay and neuter services. The Walker County Humane Society also tries to offer a free spay and neuter clinic for cats on a quarterly basis. All donations are tax deductible, strictly for veterinarian services, and are greatly appreciated.
“We are deeply grateful for The Community Journal to select our organization for assistance,” said Susie Vann with the Walker County Humane Society.
The fundraiser is open now and will continue through Tuesday, Aug. 14. Shirts may be shipped for $8 per order, or they will be delivered in person beginning Monday, Aug. 8.
“Thank you to our community for making us ‘your’ journal in the short time we’ve been in existence, and thank you in advance for supporting and benefitting the Walker County Humane Society through this fundraiser,” Phillips said.
