The Dora Bulldogs opened the 2023 season with a 23-20 loss at Winfield Friday night.
Winfield scored early to take a 6-0 lead. The Pirates increased that lead to 14-0 halfway through the second quarter. Dora was able to cut the lead to 14-7 at halftime before evening up the score at 14 with 8:14 left in the third quarter.
Winfield scored on its next possession to take a 21-14 lead, before Dora snapped the ball through the back of the end zone to give the Pirates a safety and a 23-14 lead to end the third quarter.
Dora managed to score with just over a minute left in the game to cut the Winfield lead to 23-20.
The Bulldogs (0-1) will host Oneonta (1-0) on Friday night.
