Despite some power outages in a couple of communities, Walker County Schools new years started smoothly last week, according to WCS Superintendent Dennis Willingham.
On Wednesday, a truck hit a power pole in Cordova, causing a power outage.
“We had to dismiss school at 11am at our 3 Cordova schools,” Willingham said.
They power issues continued on Thursday morning, with outages at Carbon Hill skills due to storms around 5 a.m.
“Thanks to Alabama Power, power was restored by 6 a.m. and the start of the school day was not affected,” Willingham said.
Willingham said he’s thankful for the work done at each of the Walker County Schools to allow for the smooth opening week.
“I want to thank our administrators, teachers, staff, families and, especially, students for working together to make sure we are on course for a fantastic school year in the Walker County School System.”
