The Healing House, a new nonprofit resource hub promoting wholeness, is providing resources and community to Walker County and the surrounding areas.
Amy Byrd, founder of The Healing House, said it exists to help families thrive.
“Having experienced the impacts of imbalanced family dynamics both as a child and adult, I recognize that all family structures need support.
“When we know better, we can do better, both individually and collectively,” Byrd continued. “The Healing House offers resources to help all types of families on their journey toward wholeness and understanding, because strengthening the family unit ultimately uplifts society as a whole.”
The Healing House, named for the house that serves as its facility, provides a wealth of resources for families. Currently, Byrd and others are working to launch what they call Phase I, which will begin Sept. 5.
Phase I not only provides resources to those who need it, but also is a mode for young people to serve and give back to their community.
“Phase I consists of our in-house program, FLAMES. FLAMES is an integrated arts leadership program for grades 6 -12, led by a fantastic team of selfless, highly skilled community leaders who have chosen to serve the youth of Walker county by mentoring and teaching what they know,” Byrd said.
Along with FLAMES, Phase I will also involve collaborative partnerships.
“The Mental Health Ministry offers pastoral counseling for individuals, couples, and groups of all ages and topics. Hope is the Anchor, a non-profit in Jasper, supporting families of loved ones suffering with SUD (Substance Use Disorder) through coaching sessions and therapeutic art and Flourishing Growth Christian Coaching are two partnerships focusing on mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Together with our partnership with Capstone Rural Health, supporting physical health and well-being, individuals and families who are a part of The Healing House can be supported full circle and grow in wholeness, which is always our number one goal,” Byrd said.
In the future, Byrd hopes The Healing House will expand to have an amphitheater, outdoor classrooms, and even cozy cabins to be used for retreats.

Healing House holds meet and greet for board, mentors and ambassadors
The group recently held its first meeting, which saw its board, mentors and ambassadors coming together for a meal.
“Because The Healing House focuses on complete wholeness, we felt it important that our menu reflected those same values,” Byrd said.
Chef Greg Kilgore, of Black Rock Bistro, created an anti-inflammatory meal full of nutrients. Nancy Clark, owner of the The Blend, donated a healthy dessert.
