Jasper ran into a buzzsaw Friday night in the No. 2-ranked defending Class 5A state champions Ramsay, falling 55-6.
It was the Class 5A, Region 5 opener for both teams. Ramsay improves to 2-1 on the year and 1-0 in region play, while Jasper drops to 0-2 on the year and 0-1 in the region.
Ramsay led 21-0 after the first quarter before pushing that lead to 35-0 at halftime.
The Rams pushed that lead to 48-0 after three quarters. Ramsay led 55-0 before the Vikings scored on an 11-yard run by Micah Pledger with 7:55 left in the game. That cut the final deficit to 55-6.
Pledger had 71 yards and the touchdown on 20 carries. He also caught three passes for 42 yards. Tanner Morrow completed 9-of-26 passes for 69 yards with one interception. He also ran for 29 yards.
Jasper will return to action on Thursday, hosting Fairfield in another region game.
