Jasper City Schools offering free, adult English classes

From Thursday, Jan. 25 through Thursday, May 2, Jasper City Schools is offering free community English classes to adult learners on Mondays and Thursdays.

The classes will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m., on the days that JCS schools are in session.  The classes for adult learners will be held in the library at T.R. Simmons Elementary School and are for those who reside in the Jasper city limits. Childcare will be provided by JCS student volunteers.

The Jasper City Schools’ English Learner teachers recently attended the AMTESOL (Alabama-Mississippi Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) Conference in Tupelo, Mississippi.  The conference title was “All Shook Up” (with an Elvis theme) and the focus was on learning more ways to reach and teach our students who are speakers of other languages.  The Jasper City Schools aim to help EVERY learner achieve his or her potential, while fostering a culture of collaboration and communication.

The JCS EL teachers:  Candace Ochs (T.R. Simmons), Carina Rios-not pictured (Memorial Park), Laura Collins (Maddox Intermediate), Kassandra Wilson (Jasper Jr. High), and Kayla Goetz (Jasper High School)
