The Walker County Animal Services building is once again open for business, this time under new management.
The Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS), which also operates the Jasper Animal Care & Control Shelter, announced Tuesday that they now manage the Walker County Animal Services (WCAS) building.
Allison Black Cornelius, CEO of the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, said she is excited to be able to open the county’s animal services building, adding what it took to be able to do so.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Walker County Commissioner’s office, to all of the local businesses and contractors involved, and our dedicated GBHS staff for their unwavering commitment in repairing, cleaning, sanitizing, and preparing the facility to once again provide shelter and care for animals in need,” Cornelius said. “Together, we stand stronger in our resolve to provide help to the abandoned, abused, and neglected animals in our community. Thank you for making this possible.”
The hours of operation for the WCAS building will be Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Residents wishing to surrender an animal must call (205) 754-4143 to schedule an appointment while owners at risk of surrendering their pet and who are in need of pet food, vaccinations, or supplies can visit the GBHS Pet Resource Center to apply for aid.
Residents in the county will still continue to contact the Walker County Sheriff’s Office to report any animal control issues.
