A single-vehicle crash involving a commercial vehicle that occurred at approximately 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, has caused roadway blockage. All lanes of Interstate 22 near the 49 mile marker, in Walker County are currently blocked and will be for an undetermined amount of time.
“Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly,” ALEA said in a press release.
Walker County EMA Director Regina Myers confirmed to The Community Journal that the crash was a gasoline tanker rollover.
Birmingham media outlets are reporting the truck exploded and the driver was killed in the incident.
