The Bankhead House & Heritage Center’s annual “Under the Stars” kicks off today (Saturday, May 4), with a Best of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s concert featuring Stuart Upton and Perry Collins.
The event starts at 7 p.m. It is free to attend, and takes place outdoors at the Bankhead House amphitheater.
“Under the Stars” will feature four events from May through August
“We want everyone to join us in the Amphitheater for these fabulous events featuring live music and a family movie night,” said Mimi Hudson, executive director of the Bankhead House and Heritage Center. “We often hear people say there is not much to do in Walker County. We offer these free events so people can come together and enjoy a night out.”
The event lineup for the season is:
• Saturday, May 6, at 7 p.m.
Best of the 1970s performed by Upton and Collins, joined by Aaron Branson, Don Hecklinski and John O’Mary.
• Saturday, June 15, at 7 p.m.
Big Silver will perform an alternative spin on rock and roll.
• Saturday, July 20, at 8 p.m.
“A Night with Tallulah Bankhead will include showings of her appearances on The Lucy and Desi Comedy Hour, as the Black Widow on Batman, singing and dancing on The Andy Williams Show, with Frank Sinatra on The Milton Berle Show and an interview with the legendary Edward R. Murrow from her New York apartment in 1953.
• Saturday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m.
Iron Horse, a two-time Grammy-nominated Bluegrass band renowned for transposing pop and metal genres to bluegrass, will perform.
Under the Stars 2024 sponsors are the Walker Area Community Foundation, Honda of Jasper, Hyundai of Jasper, the Walker County Arts Alliance and Jasper Main Street.
