There are quite a few events to celebrate Independence Day scheduled across Walker County over the next several days.
Those events kickoff tonight as the sky above Highway 78 in the Argo community and in Sumiton will be filled with fireworks. Celebrations will continue throughout the weekend with events in Oakman, Carbon Hill and Parrish.

Wednesday, July 3, 2024
- • Argo First Baptist Church is hosting its annual Independence Day Celebration on Wednesday, July 3. The event will start at 5 p.m. with free food (including hot dogs, cotton candy and drinks), games and inflatables. Fireworks are scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m.
• Sumiton Church of God is hosting its annual Freedom Fest on Wednesday, July 3 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Sumiton Christian football field. The event will feature food, music, inflatables, games and fireworks.
Thursday, July 4, 2024
• The Town of Oakman is hosting a 4th of July Celebration starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. The event will feature food trucks, music, kids games and fireworks.
Saturday, July 6, 2024
- • The City of Carbon Hill will hold a fireworks show on Saturday, July 6 at the Carbon Hill Splash Pad. Fireworks will start at dark.
Sunday, July 7, 2024
• Parrish Church of Nazarene is hosting a n Independence Day celebration at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 7. Food starts at 7, while fireworks begin at 9.
