Best Week Ever: August 12-18 Edition

The Community Journal is happy to offer its readers some tips each week on happenings around Walker County that can help to make it your Best Week Ever. Here are a few things happening this week:

Monday, Aug. 12 & Tuesday, Aug. 13

Alabama Stackers After School Special

Need a cool treat on a warm afternoon now that school is back in session? Alabama Stackers is offering 1/2 price ice cream scoops, milkshakes and floats. The special is from 2 to 4 p.m. each Monday and Tuesday. 

Wednesday, Aug. 13

Lunch at 5 Loaves Bakery

If a home-cooked meal with brighten the middle of your week, head to 5 Loaves Bakery & Cafe, located in the cafeteria on the Jasper campus of Bevill State Community College. Visit the 5 Loaves’ Facebook page to see daily specials. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 14

“Saved by the Bell” Trivia

If you wake up in the morning and the ‘larm clock gives out a warning, plan on hitting up trivia night at Tallulah Brewing Company this Thursday for “Saved by the Bell” trivia. Questions start at 7:30 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 16

Oakman at Jasper Fall Jamboree 

Football season is upon us and it kicks off with a jamboree game on Friday night at Kiro-Gambrell Field when Jasper High School hosts Oakman High School.  Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Come support two local teams as they face off in their final tune up before the season officially starts next week. 

Saturday, Aug. 17

Iron Horse concert at Bankhead House

Iron Horse, a two-time, Grammy-nominated bluegrass band renowned for transposing pop and metal genres to bluegrass and playing your favorite bluegrass classics, will be in concert Saturday at the Bankhead House & Heritage Center in Jasper. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a night under the stars in the amphitheater for some bluegrass music. The FREE concert begins at 7 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 18

Summer Carnival Fun Fair at Jasper Mall

A night at the fair can be fun for the entire family. There are plenty of fun games and exciting rides. Armbands are $25 per person. Admission into the fair is free, so people watching won’t cost a thing. 

The Summer Carnival Fun Fair will continue through Sunday, Aug. 18. Gates open each Monday through Friday at 5 p.m. and each Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m.
