The dog days of summer are in full swing and the back to school season is upon us. The Community Journal wants to help you have your Best Week Ever with some fun things to do in our area this week.
Tuesday, Aug. 6
Garfield’s Painting Pals Paint Night by Art & Soul Studio
6 p.m. at Garfield’s Restaurant in Jasper Mall
Fun night of painting with our painting pals. $10 feet to paint. Participating children 12 and under eat for 99 cents.
Black Rock Bistro Take-Home Meals
A Tuesday evening is a great time to let someone else do the cooking, and who better than Black Rock Bistro. Call or text orders to 205-387-0282. The pickup location is Hope House Church at 1602 10th Avenue in Jasper. Pickup starts at 3 p.m.

Parrish Splash Pad
Beat the heat right before school starts with a trip to the Parrish Splash Pad. The final weekday the Parrish Splash Pad will be open this season is Wednesday, Aug. 7. Admission is $5 per person. It will continue to be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Back to School
It’s the day that some kids are excited about and some kids dread, but ALL parents are happy. The 2024-25 school year starts for Walker County and Jasper City schools. Good luck to all students in our area this upcoming school year.
Friday, Aug. 9
Summer Carnival Fun Fair at Jasper Mall
A Friday night at the fair can be fun for the entire family. There are plenty of fun games and exciting rides. Armbands are $25 per person. Admission into the fair is free, so people watching won’t cost a thing.
The Summer Carnival Fun Fair will run from Aug. 8-18. Gates open each Monday through Friday at 5 p.m. and each Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 10
Blue Devil Day
Indian Head Mill Park in Cordova
Celebrate all things Cordova Blue Devils at the annual Blue Devil Day event. Festivities kick off at 2 p.m. The day will include arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, wet and dry inflatables and live music. There will be a pep rally at 7 p.m.
New Era Wrestling presents “Contenders’ Cup 2024”
Swann Gym in Jasper
For a night of family fun, come check out live professional wrestling presented by Jasper-based New Era Wrestling. “Contenders’ Cup 2024” will feature an annual tag team tournament, as well as Romeo Quevedo vs Wess Warren, a Coronation Ceremony for the New Era Wrestling Champion Cody Windham and several more matches.
