JASPER, Ala. (The Community Journal) – Thousands across Walker County are waking up without power Sunday morning.
According to Alabama Power at 4:45 a.m., 6,332 customers have their electricity out after a wave or strong storms moved through central Alabama Saturday afternoon, leaving downed trees and power lines across the state.
More than 38,000 customers in the Alabama Power service area were without power Sunday morning.
Reports came in from across Walker County of storm-related damage, including a tree down on Viking Drive in Jasper that knocked out power to major businesses along Highway 78.
The National Weather Service is projecting temperatures at 86-degrees Sunday with another chance of storms.
