CARBON HILL – The Carbon Hill City Council discussed Thursday night plans to make urgent repairs to city hall’s plumbing.
A report from City Clerk Sherry Garner included concerns about rainwater flooding, and that one of the hall’s bathrooms was not currently handicap-accessible.
Mayor David Phillips said he is currently seeking estimates for the repair costs and that an emergency council meeting may be called to approve the spending.
Phillips also reminded residents that sealed bids on street department and police department surplus will continue to be taken until October 7th.
The city is still taking applications for the vacant District 1 council seat.
The council voted to increase Police Chief Clark Sanford’s salary to $880 a week.
Councilwoman Judy Hurst announced “Music in the Streets ,” a live music event will take place in downtown Carbon Hill on Oct. 15, beginning at 5:30 p.m., and also said that the city’s fire and police departments would be honored that night.
