During the Jan. 17 meeting of the Walker County Commission, Flora Freeman, a resident of east Walker County, spoke during the public comments section of the meeting concerning her thoughts on the possible closing of the Pineview Landfill.
The landfill is off Bryan Road in east Walker, and it is legally scheduled to close in 2025, but commissioners (Jim Borden, Jeff Burrough and Chairman Steve Miller) voted early last year to seek ways to keep the landfill open, saying it would save the county money. During the public comment section of meetings, commission members listen but do not comment, which is what they did after hearing Freeman.
Freeman posted her speech to the commission on social media. It can be heard in the video above.
