The City of Cordova recently honored one of its favorite sons — the late Dr. Buddy Thorne. At its June meeting, the Cordova City Council presented members of Thorne’s family with a proclamation in his honor.
Mayor Jeremy Pate read the proclamation before it was presented.
“It is with great affection that the City of Cordova honors the life of Dr. Buddy Thorne. Dr. Thorne was a proud son of Cordova and was always a champion of progress for our community,” Pate read. “Dr. Thorne often referred to the Cordova Blue Devils as ‘America’s Team,’ and was himself referred to as the best quarterback the city ever saw it. Dr. Thorne regularly added excitement to meeting rooms, ball games and everywhere he found himself involved.”
The city also flew the United States flag at Cordova City Hall at half staff on June 12 to celebrate Thorne.
Family members accepted the proclamation. Beth Thorne Stukes, Thorne’s daughter, said her father loved Cordova.
“If you have had half the life in Cordova, Alabama, my dad thought he had and did have, you are blessed beyond measure,” she said. “He became all he could be with the support of this community.”
