Rep. Wadsworth gives update on Duncan Bridge project

By James Phillips, The Community Journal

Rep. Tim Wadsworth (R-Arley) recently shared an update on the progress of the Duncan Bridge Project at Smith Lake, as provided by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). The project, aimed at preserving the bridge and ensuring safe passage for residents, has reached a significant milestone.

According to the update, the coatings for the concrete bridge columns have been completed. This task was accomplished after Alabama Power lowered the level of the lake, allowing for the necessary work to be carried out. The next steps in the project include applying a healer/sealer for the concrete bridge deck and installing navigation lights.

The healer/sealer will penetrate cracks in the concrete deck riding surface, ensuring its durability and longevity. The contractor is currently working on obtaining approvals for the specific sealer they intend to use, and the work is expected to commence soon. Additionally, ALDOT is working on a supplemental agreement and finalizing details for attaching the navigation lights to the bridge.

The completion of the Duncan Bridge Project is anticipated in January 2024. Rep. Wadsworth expressed his appreciation for the public’s patience during this time and assured residents that ALDOT will continue to provide updates on the progress of the project.

“The Duncan Bridge Project is of great significance to the community, as it will not only preserve the bridge for future generations but also ensure safe passage for residents on the east side of Winston County,” Wadsworth said.

As the project moves forward, ALDOT and Rep. Wadsworth encourage residents to stay safe and enjoy their boating activities. Further updates will be shared as the project progresses.
