State Senator Greg Reed (R-Jasper), President Pro Tempore of the Alabama Senate, announced today $5 million in broadband infrastructure grants from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).
“As the world has increasingly moved online, I am incredibly proud of the steps Alabama has taken to ensure that communities have high-speed internet access,” said Senator Reed. “Bridging the digital divide for households, businesses, schools, and healthcare facilities is incredibly important for infrastructure and more importantly quality of life. I am incredibly grateful to Governor Ivey, Director Kenneth Boswell, and Spectrum for making this monumental project a reality for Walker County.”
“Our state and so many partners are making continued progress in providing high-speed internet access to unserved areas in Alabama,” said ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell. “I am pleased that through the support of Governor Ivey as well as Senator Reed and the Legislature, we are able to continue working toward the goal of connecting all of Alabama, including this project to expand broadband access in Walker County that will truly change lives for the better.”
This project has proposed to provide 105 miles of fiber construction to provide high speed internet access to 1303 previously unserved households, businesses, and community institutions in Walker County.
