Jasper Main Street received six awards, including two statewide honors, at Main Street Alabama’s ninth annual Awards of Excellence, held Thursday, August 18, at the Auburn Marriott Opelika Resort Hotel & Spa at Grand National in Opelika.
Jasper Mayor David O’Mary was honored by Main Street Alabama with the State Main Street Hero Award for his unwavering support of not only Jasper Main Street but Main Street Alabama
“Main Street has made a huge difference in Jasper, so I always welcome the opportunity to help Main Street,” O’Mary said.
Mike Putman, Jasper Main Street executive director, was honored by Main Street Alabama with the Main Street Director Leadership Award. Putman has been the director since Jasper became a Designated Main Street City in 2015.
The Main Street Hero Award honors an individual, business or organization that made an outstanding contribution to their local program. The Hero Award went to Pinnacle Bank for their continued support of local projects. Ted Killingsworth accepted the award.
Jasper Main Street received an Awards of Excellence in Public/Private Partnerships for the Discover Jasper event. Receiving this award was JMS board member Gina Scruggs and JMS marketing & events director, Renae Wilson.
JMS received an Awards of Excellence in Economic Impact for Property Acquisitions. Receiving this award was JMS board members Lisa Killingsworth and Holly Trawick.
Jasper Main Street received an Award of Excellence in Adaptive Reuse for The Pie Factory building renovation. Accepting the award from The Pie Factory was Mike Alonso, Andrew Freeman, Dowell Freeman and Tina Freeman.
