Vikes earn first win

FAIRFIELD – The Jasper Vikings picked up their first win of the season and evened their region record at 1-1 Thursday night with a 34-26 win over Fairfield on the road.

Senior quarterback Spencer Rosenfeld returned from a two-game absence, providing the spark needed by the Vikings. He finished with 285 yards of total offense, throwing for 179 yards and two touchdowns, running for 82 yards and catching a pass for 24 yards.

Rosenfeld threw both his touchdowns in the first quarter, one to Corey Shephard and another to Titus Waldrop. Jasper led 13-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Shephard caught six passes for 100 yards and a touchdown and also returned a blocked field goal 90 yards for a score with 3:32 left in the second quarter to push the Vikings’ halftime lead to 20-7.

Micah Pledger scored two touchdowns in the second half, one from 13 yards and another from one yard.

“I’m proud for the kids,” Jasper coach Philip Bailey said about the win. “They played hard and found a way to win. It wasn’t always pretty, and there’s a lot we can clean up and do better, but certainly proud of their effort and the result they got tonight.”

After three straight games on the road, Jasper will return home next week to host Wenonah in another region matchup.
