SUMITON — The Sumiton Christian Eagles evened their overall and region records at 2-2 with a 49-0 win over Brilliant.
Sumiton Christian opened its scoring with eight minutes left in the first quarter when Kannen DeFoor ran for a 15-yard touchdown. The Eagles led 7-0.
DeFoor scored again on a 49-yard run with 4:28 left in the first quarter to put SCS up 14-0. Jake White connected with Brody Berger on a 22-yard touchdown at the 1:29 mark of the quarter to increase the lead to 21-0.
Ashton Harper picked off a Brilliant pass with 1:09 left in the quarter, and the Eagles capitalized on the turnover moments later on a 14-yard touchdown run by DeFoor. SCS led 28-0 at the end of the first quarter.
On the Eagles’ first drive of the second quarter, it would only take two plays for Noah Godwin to reach pay dirt when he scored on a 44-yard run. SCS led 35-0 at halftime.
The Eagles opened the second half with a scoring drive. DeFoor scored his fourth touchdown of the night on a 10-yard run. The Eagles led 42-0 after three quarters.
Godwin scored his second touchdown with 10 minutes left in the game when he went 81 yards to the end zone to increase the lead to 49-0.
Sumiton Christian will host Talladega County next Friday.
