Fentanyl has been a disaster and totally destroying lives and families across the country, and Walker County is no exception.
The drug game changes daily, and Sheriff Nick Smith said law enforcement have to adapt to those changes. There are increasing cases of overdoses due to a mixture of meth and fentanyl. In the past, law enforcement would typically see a heroin/fentanyl mix or straight fentanyl.
For area citizens struggling and willing to get help, Smith said the Mercy Project can help.
“We partner with Ross Recovery, Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center, and several faith-based organizations to get you the help that you need,” Smith said.
