Bevill State Community College hosted a College, Career, and Apprenticeship Workshop on its Sumiton campus today. Military active duty, guardsmen, reservists, retirees, veterans, and their dependents received information about local services and programs available to them at Bevill State Community College.
Similar events are being held throughout the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) thanks to a sponsorship from the Alabama Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils (RC&D). A $2,000 scholarship was awarded to Chad Weldon, U.S. Army. Special thanks to the Jasper High School U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) for posting colors at the event.
“Bevill State Community College is committed to serving our communities. The College appreciates the Alabama Association of RC&D Councils, including our local CAWACO RC&D, for supporting our efforts to serve the active military, veterans, and their families. This College, Career, and Apprenticeship Workshop allowed us to provide information about vital resources and programs available to help these individuals pursue their goals. These brave men and women made great sacrifices for our country, and it was an honor to host them on our campus today,” stated Dr. Joel Hagood, President of Bevill State Community College.
Alabama Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Reed (R-Jasper) said, “I want to thank Chancellor Baker and the Alabama Community College System for their collaboration with the Alabama Association of RC&D Councils in successfully implementing a program across the state, like the one held today on the Bevill State Sumiton Campus, that is benefitting the many men and women of our active-duty military, guardsmen, retirees, and veterans. These 30 Educational training and career workshops will serve as a vital tool in recruiting and retaining employees and attracting employers. With the strategic placement of the workshops, we can reach every corner of the state and positively impact thousands of Alabamians. I am proud to serve not only this district but the friendliest military state in the nation.”
“We owe a debt of gratitude to our military community for the service they have provided to our community, state, and nation. I’m thankful for this opportunity to serve these brave men and women by creating access to resources that will allow them to achieve their education and career goals. Thank you to Bevill State Community College for hosting this event and to CAWACO RC&D for providing the funding for this worthy cause,” said Matt Woods (R-Jasper), Alabama House of Representatives, District 13.
