BSCC hires Conner as basketball coach

Bevill State Community College (BSCC) is excited to announce the appointment of Billy Conner as the new Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball Team. The Bevill State Basketball program is located on the College’s Jasper Campus.

Chris Harris, BSCC Athletic Director, stated, “We are so excited to have Coach Conner join the Bevill State family. Coach Conner’s dedication to positively shaping the lives of young student-athletes has remained evident throughout his career. His close ties to the area as a well-respected coach, along with his recruiting capabilities and outstanding character, make him the ideal choice to lead the Bevill State Basketball program. Go Bears!”

Coach Billy Conner is a graduate of Dora High School. Following high school, he received a scholarship to Wallace State Community College in Hanceville where he played baseball and basketball. After two seasons at WSCC- Hanceville he transferred to the University of Montevallo, finishing out his college career in baseball.

He has been the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach for Corner High School for 33 years. During his tenure at Corner High School, he led his teams to 639 wins. He averaged almost 20 wins per season, including a thirteen-season streak with 20 or more wins. Conner has been honored with multiple coaching awards over the years.

Coach Conner’s family includes his wife, Tiffany, daughter and son-in-law, Sydney and Jonah Trotter, and two beautiful identical twin granddaughters, Aspyn and Addilyn. Coach Billy Conner said of the appointment, “We have always based our lives around God, family, and then team. Looking forward to adding these teammates to our family. Go Bears!”

Bevill State Community College President, Dr. Joel Hagood, said, “Bevill State is so excited to have a local legend like Coach Billy Conner join our coaching staff. I fully anticipate that Coach Conner will be inducted into the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Hall of Fame for his long and impressive career as head basketball coach of Corner High School. I am confident that he will bring positive changes to the Bevill State Basketball program through his knowledge, skills, and dedication to developing his players both as students and athletes. We are fortunate to have him at the College. Go Bears!”
