MONTGOMERY – On Tuesday, Senate Joint Resolution 94 reaffirming Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville as the best location for the U.S. Space Command was adopted and passed by both chambers. Senate Majority Leader Clay Scofield introduced the resolution and followed up with a request that all 35 Senators be added as co-sponsors.
In 2020, the United States Department of the Air Force conducted virtual and on-site visits to six potential locations that would house the U.S. Space Command Headquarters, and subsequently in 2021, the Secretary of the Air Force selected Redstone Arsenal as the preferred location. Redstone Arsenal located in Huntsville, Alabama was among 24 states and 65 other locations to be selected.
“Alabama is the premier location for the United States Space Command. With a rich history and tradition in aerospace and defense, our state is uniquely positioned to lead the way in space command operations,” stated Senate Majority Leader Clay Scofield. “Our strategic geographic location, with proximity to military installations, research centers, and defense industry partners, enables seamless collaboration and integration with other commands and institutions. It’s time for the Biden administration to stop putting politics above the safety of the American people and move Space Command to Alabama where it belongs.”
The intent of the resolution is to dispute any declaration that Alabama is a less than desirable location for U.S. Space Command Headquarters and to echo Alabama’s prominence as a pillar in our national security and decade’s long leadership in the aerospace industry.
