Eli Gold to miss start of Alabama football season

Alabama football radio broadcasts will sound different when the season kicks off on September 3rd from Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Longtime Alabama football play-by-play announcer Eli Gold will be absent from the booth as he battles health issues. The announcement came Wednesday from Jim Carabin, vice president and general manager of Crimson Tide Sports Marketing.

Filling in for Gold will be Chris Stewart, play-by-play announcer for Alabama basketball and baseball as well as the anchor for Alabama football broadcasts. Stewart will also assume hosting duties for “The Nick Saban Show” and “Hey Coach.”

Eli Gold, a Brooklyn, NY native, has been the voice of the Crimson Tide since 1988.

Alabama starts the 2022 season against Utah State on September 3. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. on WJLX 101.5 in Jasper.
