Outstanding Student: Kadence Moore, Oakman Middle School

Kadence Moore, an eighth grader at Oakman Middle School, is The Community Journal’s Outstanding Student of the Week.

Moore excels in academics and cheerleading and participated in the Disney Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2022.

“I was surprised and excited when I was chosen as a Varsity Spirit All-American Cheerleader at Summer Varsity Cheer Camp,” said Moore, who has done competitive cheer for six years and school cheer for the past two. “I did not expect to receive this honor or to go to Disneyworld and cheer in the Disney Thanksgiving Day Parade.”

Moore said she received a video of the routine two weeks in advance. She practiced on her own before joining her fellow All-American cheerleaders for two days of practice.

“ I enjoyed meeting cheerleaders from all over the country and cheering in the parade,” she said.

Oakman Middle School Principal Bart Lockhart said the entire community was proud of Moore.

“We at OMS are so proud of Kadence. She is an awesome young lady. She’s a hard worker, and a great student,” Lockhart said  “Earning a spot to perform at Disney is a big deal, and we are so happy to have her representing our school there.”

The experience was meaningful for Moore not only as a cheerleader, but also as a Disney fan.

“All of them – but I think ‘The Lion King,’” said Moore when asked about her favorite Disney film. She watched a live performance of “The Lion King” at Animal Kingdom. “It was really cool,” she added.

Moore summarized her feelings about the Disney experience by voicing her gratitude for the opportunity.

“I was really proud; I was grateful to go,” she said.
